Did not know this house was vacant, but it surely looks it. Mount Vernon is one block long, with now three big eyesores, a junkyard, and two scraped lots.
As noted a sad street, back in February of this year, the following all were listed for foreclosure -2-4, 7-9, 24 and 25. Of course, we have the 3-5 as the gateway for the foreclosure risk for this street.
I drove by yesterday (June 17) and today, to see the front door open on the house. So I found my old foreclosure notices to see 2-4 Mount Vernon had been set for auction back in January. Continued to March and then closed by the lender. The lender: Fannie Mae. The same Fannie Mae that has 3-5 Mount Vernon, 24 Mount Vernon and around the corner at 32 Glneham. All posted on this website- Incredible!!! If this does not scream out for Fannie Mae to package these homes for neighbrohood recovery what does?
As an attempt to try and really contribute to the betterment of Providence and be a useful tool, in my heart what this site is coming down to is exposing, and suggesting what you’ve put together.
A.) Suss out absentee owners
B.) Use recorded and photo documentation to build a case
C.) Suggest turnover remedy
D.) Present worst offenders list to city/state/federal agency who can muscle out said turnover
How else is progressing going to happen? The market will not solve this. And five rotting, forgotten houses sitting in a lonely part of 2nd tier city mean nothing to these lenders, but mean the world to these neighborhoods.
As is, we’re compiling a “worst streets” list to supplement the worst individual houses tally.

It is ordinary for the owner to file bankruptcy the day before the auction(or the same day). This cancels the auction and the lender must file for “relief”. This takes time and delays proceedings for about three mortgage payment free months. It is the free rent which encourages filing the day before.
Please don’t ask how I found this out. Worse the borrower was a police chief.
Take a look at the Google Street View of this address. I think a drug deal was going down as the Google van was driving by. That entire street should be condemned and all the houses should be razed and replaced by a development that is more sustainable and policable.

If you mean the kid on the bicycle, I suppose they could be shaking hands.
It seems that dead end streets do attract a certain notoriety. I remeber going to one when I was a kid and just needed a six-pack.
After some stops and starts, this house is finally scheduled for auction on March 1. The house is boarded. 15 Mount Vernon is scheduled for auction on March 1st too. 3 Mount Vernon has new front doors.
