I just referenced a good citizen from another city in my last entry on 25 Diamond St, and if you followed that link, you should follow this one as well.

From Bill Callahan’s Cleveland Diary, my new favorite hero. Talking about foreclosures/vacants/abandoned property in Cleveland, Ohio, Bill says:

[In order to keep] current occupants in these homes (even if the foreclosure process goes forward) [and] in order to prevent the stripping and gutting [of our homes/neighborhoods]…[we must work at] preserving tenant occupancy rights, converting foreclosed owners into tenants or lease-purchasers, pushing the banks to eat their losses on wildly over-appraised properties, various political and legal efforts to delay or block the foreclosure process, etc. All of these strategies need to be employed simultaneously — along with subsidized loan modifications for the minority of defaulting borrowers who can actually manage the resulting payments — if we’re going to have a prayer of significantly reducing the carnage in our neighborhoods.

Emphasis mine.

Thank you Bill.

BTW 27 Diamond is getting uglier by the day.
