Not quite sure on the exact address of this house since it has no number on it and I can’t find it on the Prov Plan records, Google says its 651 so we’ll go with that. This house has looked this sad since I can remember (5 years at least). I’m not really sure what the deal is, but I saw someone putting up more boards on the windows a few weeks ago. Anyone have any more info? Also not surprising to see this grafitti across the street, not hard to see where they got their inspiration.

I think this is a much older house than it might appear. Still, it is single story and wouldn’t be too hard to deal with. That lone dormer window makes me wonder what went on inside.
Is it sitting on a foundation?
I took another look. It appears to have been built as a duplex, but only seems to have one chimney. Even when it used “space heaters” they would have had a chimney, at least the gas and kerosene fired ones. There are metalbestos alternatives to brick, so it might not be a major cost factor.
The correct address is 276 Grove and not Harris Avenue. House was foreclosed upon back in 2001 before being foreclosed again in 2007. Record shows it was sold by the mortgage company in 2008.
Good looking out, Ray. You know this one by heart?
Nice photos, Myles. Must have been a morning, huh?
I’ve spotted two more “houses” a block or so north of here I’ll have to get up soon. Went I went by 276 Grove there was a red Taurus in the driveway—probably safe to say it wasn’t the owner.
Faust, a rare one story would be much more manageable; too bad this area stinks. Not even a crime/neighborhood thing. More of a big-freaking-highway-overpass/scummy-industrial-lots kinda’ thing. Valley St. has received a nice update in recent years…too bad that re-construction has translated into much just one block east or west of Valley.

I had done the “map”/”street view” and wasn’t too impressed. I keep those opinions to myself.
I like looking at these things, the dormer window made me curious. Notice that it is off center, but is almost directly over one of a pair of windows. This suggests that there is a dividing/bearing wall between those two first floor windows.
Don’t know much about the length of Valley Street. I only go there for occasional visits to a motorcycle shop and the “flea market”. Depending on what you are looking for, I recommend the “flea market”. I got a Baldor electric motor from the “tool guy” for $45.00, that is a $250.00 item. Also got some metal working/machinists tools for pennies on the dollar, those are for my insane hobbies. Mostly Brown & Sharpe, I guess that makes them part of “Rhode Island Memories”. He also has a few “architectural antiques”, hall mirrors, stained glass windows, etc. I think his prices are a little high on those, he will “negotiate” with English speakers.
If you are into “choppers”, the motorcycle shop isn’t bad either.
I caught another article today about how Providence was full of “used up” three deckers that should have been demolished in the 70′s.
“News Articles” do not spring full blown like Venus from a Cypriot sea, someone is pushing that idea.
“Demolition” is predictable, government can deal with that. It might even fit in a “stimulus” or “toxic assets” bill. A bunch of “do it yourselfers” running amuck is not something a government can get behind, too uncontrollable. Everyone in government would oppose it, from the Building Dept up to the President. “A moose is a deer, designed by a committee” – T. Roosevelt. “If you poll a committee, all you obtain is the sum of their fears” – W. Churchill. “That is why “focus group” products are never original.” – Faust
It must have been late, before I get a bad reputation, the word in not “amuck” it is “amok”.
I used to have a space at the Rising Sun Mill before it was renovated, and I would drive by this place daily. I recall a few times there being large drug raids there, SWAT team and all.
